My Rolfing® Philosophy
I love Rolfing because it gives me the opportunity to help another person reach their goals. Each person is unique and Rolfing has the flexibility to support each person's individual process. It is a delight to observe the changes possible in the human body and see the effect those changes can have on a person's energy and attitude, in addition to their structure.
Well, how did I get here?
I completed my training at the Rolf Institute of Structural Integration in the summer of 2008. I became interested in Rolfing when I realized my massage practice was only the tip of the iceberg in terms of my educational potential. I practiced massage for several years before I decided I needed to learn more about the body and how to help people feel better AND maintain that relief through the lasting changes structural integration provides.
During my time as a massage therapist, I received training in craniosacral therapy, geriatric massage, and canine massage (gotta take care of my pups!). As a Rolfer,™ I continue to seek out new information and enjoy studying and learning new things.
Prior to massage therapy school, I earned bachelor's degrees at the University of Kansas in Social Welfare and Human Development. After college, I spent two years serving as an AmeriCorps volunteer-one year building houses with Habitat for Humanity and another year doing outdoor environmental service through Outward Bound.
Sports and exercise have been part of my life since childhood. I grew up playing competitive softball, lifting weights, and playing other recreational sports. I joined the rowing team in college and was part of the varsity crew for four years. After rowing, I stayed active with the athletic department by coaching Strength and Conditioning as a graduate assistant. Since then, I've continued to enjoy rowing and have taken up running for fun (even though I swore in college I would never use the words run and fun in the same sentence!).
In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, reading, quilting, and playing with my dogs in addition to my athletic endeavours.
